Solid etalon used to tune a high power laserLightMachinery manufactures the world's finest solid and air spaced etalons. Our fluid jet polishing systems allow us to routinely create surfaces that are better than lambda/100 peak to valley.

Solid etalons, air spaced etalons, piezo tunable etalons, Gire Tournois etalons, LightMachinery has extensive expertise in the manufacturing and testing of all kinds of Fabry Perot etalons from 1mm square to 100mm in diameter.  These devices require high quality, very flat optical surfaces and extreme parallelism to achieve high performance, making them a good match for the polishing and metrology at LightMachinery.

Long Silicon Etalons These are long solid silicon etalons, 25mm in diameter. The FSR of the etalons is 833MHz. The high index of the material creates a finesse of about 2 without any coatings. However the index also varies with temperature...
10 GHz Air spaced etalon A 10GHz air spaced etalon with 3 zerodur spacers optically contacted using epoxy free bonding. A very high finesse etalon with a 10mm clear aperture.

Diced Etalons A thin solid etalon 2mm x 4mm x 25 microns thick. Made from fused silica the thin etalon is surprisingly robust but a little tricky to package.
Diced Etalons Custom R&D Fabry Perot etalons, fresh off of the dicing machine. The etalons are about 1mm thick. The total block size is 2" x 2".
Air spaced etalon spacer This 1/2" air-spaced Fabry Perot etalon spacer is shown along side an interferometric view of the same spacer. The spacers need to be made to etalon tolerances since the spacer determines the separation and tilt between the two end plates.
Assembled small air spaced etalon The small air spaced Fabry Perot etalon has now been assembled with a 50um air gap. A small piece of kapton covers the vent hole in the side of the spacer. Mirrors are attached using epoxy free bonding (optically contacted)

Large piezo tunable fabry-perot interferometer A very large 80mm aperture, piezo tunable Fabry Perot etalon with end plates matched to lambda / 110 (about 6nm) over the entire aperture. This was an extremely challenging and rewarding project. Three piezo stacks allow the end mirrors to be trimmed for perfect alignment, then the FSR can be tuned or scanned through 9um's of movement. Large peizo tunable fabry perot etalon The instrument also has a 70nm raised step over half the aperture, creating an offset fringe pattern. The piezo tuning is very smooth despite the load of the inch thick ultra-flat plates.
Large piezo tunable fizeau interferometer A giant 60mm aperture piezo tunable Fizeau interferometer. End plates are matched to lambda/100 over the full aperture. This instrument uses the same method of 3 piezo stacks to allow the end mirror to be trimmed for perfect alignment and then the FSR can tuned or scanned through 9um's of movement.

solid etalons One Fabry Perot etalon is 3mm thick the other is 10mm thick, both have 80% reflectivity on each surface. These large etalons are used in an R&D lab.
Small piezo tunable air spaced etalon A tunable Fabry Perot etalon uses piezo electric cylinders to adjust the size of the air gap and sweep the peaks of the etalon. air spaced micro-etalons Two different designs of micro-cavity air spaced etalons for 1550nm . Each etalon is about 3mm in size and more temperature insensitive than solid etalons. Bulk processing techniques allow these types of etalons to be manufactured in high volume at reasonable cost with epoxy free bonding (optical contacting)
matched confocal resonator This optic has a 1 meter radius and is matched to another identical optic to form a confocal resonator (a long air spaced etalon with curved mirrors).
